Scientists have identified why people blink far more frequently than necessary

Scientists have documented that the light patterns that stimulate the retina change as the eyelids move. As a result, visual signals are sent to the brain that are different from those formed when our eyes are focused on something without blinking. In other words, blinking helps us see the ‘big picture’ and pay attention to large, slowly changing patterns.
